1815 Dec 25 Point Pleasant Court Records refer to him (Deed Book D p102): “Will of John Roush requests that a “title to Michael Kouns for a quarter acre lot I sold him in Point Pleasant containing my old tanyard and which I sold him for $150 payable in a year and a half.” Michael was listed as Testee to will “At court held in Mason County the 30th day of January 1816 the last will and testament of John Roush, deceased, was presented in court and proven by oath of William Sterrett and Michael Kouns, two of the witnesses thereto and ordered to be recorded and on the motion of Gideon, the executor herein named who made oath and together with William Sterrett, his security, entered into and acknowledged their bond in the penalty of $3,000…” (History of Roush Family, 1928)

1847 Jun 5 Will filed in Mason, WV Court: I Michael Kouns Sr. being sound in mind, but frail in body after committing my Soul to the care of Almighty God and testing all hope of Salvation in the merits of Jesus Christ; do make, constitute, and publish this my last will and testament, hereby breaking and annulling all other or former wills made by me. 1st it is my will and desire that my executor pay and discharge all my just debts. 2nd I give and bequeath to my wife Susannah in fee simple and to be disposed of as she pleases all the beds, bedsteads and bedding and all other articles of her make and many fortune. 3rd I give and bequeath to my said wife during her natural life all the all the other articles of household and kitchen furniture all farming utensils and stock on the place of mine and all all grain of whatsoever kind all feed I have for stock, at the time and all provisions or eatables. 4th I also give and bequeath to my wife during her natural life, the following slaves to wit: Thomas and Jane for her use during her life but not the right to dispose of them for a longer period I also give and bequeath to her the money coming from her brothers estate provided that be not paid during my life together with all the money I have on hand at my decease. 5th I give and bequeath to my son John the following slaves heretofore delivered to him wit: Peter and Matilda; together with Susan and Bird. 6th I give and bequeath to my son Michael the following slaves, two of which I delivered to him by deed with land to wit: Adam and Milly together with Rachel, Jeisie and Green. 7th I give and bequeath to my son Mark Bird the following Slaves to wit: Benjamin, Mary, Faairiny and Thomas after the death of my wife. 8th It is my will that after the payment of $25.00 dollars by him my slave Jaeale have his freedom. 9th It is my will and desire that all the balance of my estate by equally divided between my three sons after the death of my wife, that is to say, to John one third, to Michael one Third and the one third to my son Mark Bird. I do appoint my son Michael Executor of my estate.
